The Grand Lake Family YMCA wrapped up its youth basketball league over the weekend. Over 138 kids ranging in age from 5 to 10 years old participated in the program. Games began the first week of December with a two-week layoff for the holidays. At the completion of the season every child received a trophy and all participants kept their jersey as a memento. The Grand Lake Family YMCA wishes to thank all the parents and volunteers who helped to make the basketball league a success.

Next up for the Y is the Spring Soccer Program. As with the basketball league all athletes will receive a trophy at seasons end and their keepsake jersey. Practices and games are set to begin March 3rd for all divisions. Games are played at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM for the under-6 division, also known as the Itty Bitty Y League, and last one hour; thirty minutes of practice followed by thirty minutes of play. The under-8 division will follow similar procedures, however the 9-10 grouping will be a competitive league with awards given for 1st through 3rd place.

The Grand Lake Family YMCA is in the staging plans of attempting to develop a youth fast-pitch softball league and or clinic. Currently the Y staff is gauging interest and working in coordination with GHS fast-pitch coach Charli Duff and athletic director Jimmy Johnson.

The Grand Lake Family YMCA is located on Elk Street right behind Pizza Hut. For any questions concerning the Y programs call 786-5774.
