I played with some friends this weekend over at Shangri-La. The course is as beautiful as ever and the greens are coming back and are unbelievably fast. The two new holes are about completed and the new little pond is finished. Local builder Mike Long, has the new, 13,000 square foot clubhouse literally jumping to completion. Membership has almost tripled in just six months. General Manager Jason Sheffield and his staff have things turned around and heading for success.
GOLF TIP of the WEEK
I observed a friend of mine during a round recently. He kept missing the fairway left and then right. He was actually hitting the ball pretty good. He was becoming more and more frustrated. That is the nature of golf or at least that is part of the challenge. Another big part of golf is the overcoming of these frustrations. I suggested that he keep his head more still. The problem was that when he started his back swing his head (or chin) traveled about four or five inches with the takeaway motion. Everyone that does this also experiences his or her head returning to where it was originally. The problem is that we can’t duplicate this much motion consistently. We can get close, but getting close in a golf swing means that the shot will vary as much as far left or far right and even occasionally down the middle. The solution is simple; keep your lead ear behind the ball and keep your head as still as possible.
FRUSTRATED BY YOUR GAME?
If so, please read this…GRAND LAKE GOLF SCHOOL is now the official “Fitter” for www.fitchip.com in this area. This is a new fitting system in which we can measure instantaneously if you have the right frequency shafts in your clubs. The inventor and developer proved to me that 60 percent of all golfers are playing with the wrong shaft frequency. Simplified, this just means you either get the clubface square back to the ball naturally or by force. Go to www.fitchip.com. Naturally is of course best. We offer a fitting and swing lesson for $50. If you replace and order your shafts at $45 each including grip, we credit the $50 to your purchase. Or, ask us about our demo plan. Call Steve at 918-257-4967.
GOLF JOKE of the WEEK
Folks, I really need some more golf jokes. Please forward some of your favorites to email@example.com.
Jake the avid Golfer was lying in his deathbed and feeling much remorse.
He beckoned his wife (who also is an avid golfer) to his side and said, “I must confess my sins and ask your forgiveness.”
She asked Jake, “What is it that you have done?”
He said, “I slept with your sister and three of your best friends. I kissed your aunt passionately just a month ago. I have had many, many affairs”.
She contemplated this confession and said, “Jake, I forgive you.”
Jake then said, “Great, the only thing left unfinished is to tell my golf buddies that I cheated on my handicap.”
To which she said, “You no good, lousy, lying bum and she stormed off”.
