JAY-It was Chelsea’s turn to take on the Bulldogs, Thursday evening‘s Summer League play, at Trollinger-Haggard Field.  And thanks to a 12 hit offensive barrage, Jay put an 11-5 hurt on the visiting Green Dragons.

Left-handed Tyler Buss took the hill for the home team and was greeted by a leadoff double by Chelsea’s Lonnie Tharp.  Tharp put his team in the scorebook in the top of the first, when he scored on Briar Delozier’s subsequent one-out two-base hit.  An error by the Jay catcher plated Delozier before Buss could manage to put down the rally with a ground out and a popup.

In the bottom of the opening stanza, the Bulldogs took advantage of a pair of infield errors, a passed ball and base hits by Corey Steifel and Matt Henderson to knot things at two each.

Buss was able to regroup himself in the second frame and mowed the visitors down with a pair of strikeouts and a popup on the infield. And in the bottom of the second, the Bulldog bats stayed hot.  Buss led off the frame with a single that was followed by hits from Daylen Root and Blake Tanner to load the bases. Jay took their first lead of the game thanks to a hit from Kellen Brown that scored Buss.  Jeremy Dunham and Stiefel then belted back-to-back RBI doubles to put the ’Dogs on top 6-2.

Buss got the visitors to go down in order in the top of the third, as did Jay in the bottom half.   Chelsea’s Quincy Salyer worked Buss for a leadoff walk in the fifth that was followed by a single and another walk to load the bases.  Salyer scored on a passed ball while the other pair of Dragon base runners crossed the plate on a Dalion Duvall base hit.

But that was as close as the visitors would ever get.  Tanner led off the bottom of the fourth with his second hit and advanced to second on Cal Guinn’s pinch hit single.   Dunham reached base on a fielder’s choice and joined Guinn in the scoring column on Steifel’s third base knock of the evening.

Steifel extended the Bulldog lead when he crossed the plate as the result of another Chelsea miscue.  Brett Pritchett took over the pitching duties and kept the Dragons off the scoreboard for the remaining two innings.  Jay added a pair of insurance runs thanks to Steifel’s 3rd hit of the game as the Bulldogs

rolled to the 11-5 win.
