A pair of state champions highlighted the State Championship Track Meets for Delaware County schools last weekend.

At the A/2A state championships held at Putnam City High School, Fairland's Jesse Drosche won the title in the high jump with a leap of 6'4", edging out Watonga's Jesse Brewer. He was the only medalist for the Owls.

The Jay Bulldogs had their own state champions as Tyler Payton won his third state crown in the 800 meters at the 3A/4A meet in Ardmore. Payton finished with a time of 1:57.61, nearly two seconds ahead of Okmulgee's Michael Cain. Payton also finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 50.0 seconds.

For the Jay girls 1600 meter runner Talisa Budder finished in sixth place with a time 5:38.48 for that team's only medal.

Colcord also had a medalist at Putnam City in Canaan Sherrell. Sherrell collected two medals at the meet, finishing second in the 300 meter hurdles in a time of :40.2 and earning the bronze medal in the high jump with a height of 6'2".
