The Jay Bulldogs baseball team (7-5, 4A #9) won a 7-2 contest Monday evening at Trolinger-Haggard Field over Verdigris Valley Conference rivals the Miami Wardogs.

Kyle Shambaugh collected the win for Jay. The sophomore southpaw struck out five batters while giving up four hits.

The Bulldogs led from the start Monday jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Jay doubled their lead in the third and added another run in the fourth.

Cayle Shambaugh and Mitch Goins scored the final Jay runs with leadoff homers in the fifth and sixth innings.

“This is their year,” Wardog Baseball Head Coach Chris Mercer said of the Bulldogs. “This is the best team they’ve had since I’ve been here.”

Miami put together a two-run rally in the sixth and managed to put two runners on base in the seventh before Jay collected a third out to end the game.

The Bulldogs will feature in the Oologah Tournament starting today (Wednesday.) Jay meets up with 3A top-ten Casia Hall to open pool play. Thursday Jay is scheduled to face 4A top-five Mannford before a Friday contest with Inola
