PRESTON-Following a winning effort versus Gans on Thursday at Afton, the Oaks boys’ season came to an end Friday at Preston. The Warriors fell victim to the eventual regional consolation champion Wister Wildcats, 57-44. The Oaks girls, on the other hand, with Friday’s 45-39 victory over Keota, advanced to Saturday’s consolation finals versus the Lady Grizzlies of Gans.

Despite turning the ball over a half dozen times in the first quarter the Lady Warriors rode a pair of Cheyenne Foreman 3 point shots to go with a Malaurie Blackfox bucket and a Wynter Cunningham free throw for an early 9-6 lead. But in the subsequent stanza Oaks shot 2 of 10 field goal attempts and 0 for 5 from beyond the arc.

But the Lady Warriors buried 4 of 5 free throws to salvage 9 total points in the 2nd. In the meantime the Gans girls, led by Jessica Taylor’s 5, scored 14 to take a 20-17 lead into the break.

The Grizzlies continued to disrupt the Oaks offense by forcing them to turn the ball over 5 more times in the 3rd. But the Lady Warriors got 3 field goals from Whitney Philpot and a trey from Blackfox to account for all 9 of their 3rd quarter points.

Conversely, Gans’s Becca Brannon scored 6 of her game high 20, to go with 5 more from Taylor scoring 13 and extending their lead 7 with a quarter to play. With the game still within reach Oaks’s Cunningham scored 5 more to go with treys by Philpot and Laurie Osburn for their best offensive quarter of the game.

But, despite being held to 2 of 8 from the floor, the Lady Grizzlies shot 15 of 22 from the free throw line, for their best quarter of the day (19) and the 52-41 final. The Lady Warriors ended their season with a 16-7 record.
