LOCAL NEWS

Our friend Karen Kyman got an eagle this past week at Patricia Island’s #2, par 4 playing with the Precision Golf Group. That’s a 2 folks. And Patricia Island Member Bob Goben shot his age once again, Congrats to Bob. Another friend from Patricia Island, Ileta Bray shot a career low 83 last week. If she keeps this up, she might pop a 70 something this summer.

PRO REPORT

Bubba finally wins!

This guy has been on the leader board more than anyone and still hasn’t won a tournament. He’s made a jillion dollars while not winning, so I don’t feel too sorry for him.  Bubba Watson won a 3 way play off with Corey Pavin and Oklahoman Scott Verplank at the Traveler’s Insurance Company Championship at Cromwell, Conn.

ROBERTS HOLDS OFF FUNK

Loren Roberts birdied the final hole for a seven-under 65 and a one-stroke victory over Fred Funk in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open, a Champions Tour event in Endicott, N.Y. It was the 12th tour victory for the 54-year-old Roberts, who was five shots back with eight holes to play

ARE YOU JUST INCONSISTENT?

GRAND LAKE GOLF SCHOOL at Patricia Island is now the official “Fitter” for www.fitchip.com in this area. This is a new fitting system in which we can measure instantaneously if you have the right frequency shafts in your clubs. The inventor and developer proved to me that 60% of all golfers are playing with the wrong shaft frequency. Simplified, this just means you either, get the club face square back to the ball naturally or by force. Naturally is of course best.

We offer a fitting and swing lesson for $50; If you replace and order your shafts at $45 each including grip, we credit the $50 to your purchase. Or, ask us about our demo plan. Call Steve at 918-257-4967 or Gregg Compton at 515-333-9977.

GOLF TIP of the WEEK

Question: “Why do I hit so many low shots?”

Answer: “Because you are trying (unconsciously) to lift the ball.”

Iron shots should be a descending shot, not ascending; this is exactly the opposite of what would appear to be logical. Sometimes golf is illogical or my favorite description is “counter-intuitive”.

GOLF JOKE of the WEEK

A young man and a priest are playing together.

At a short par-3  the priest asks, "What are you going to use on this hole, my son?"

The young man says, "An 8-iron, father. How about you?"

The priest says, "I'm going to hit a soft seven and pray."

The young man hits his 8-iron and puts the ball on the green.

The priest tops his 7-iron and dribbles the ball out a few yards.

The young man says, "I don't know about you, father, but in my church, when we pray, we keep our head down."
