The Kansas Lady Comets rallied from a six point halftime deficit to get past the Jay Lady Bulldogs 50-49 Friday night.
Junior guards Kelsey Barnwell and Courtney Cowan had 21 and 17, respectively, for the Lady Comets, the top ranked team in Class 3A.
Megan Ritter led the Lady Bulldogs with 17 points. Lauren Wilson and Laura Whiteley added 14 and 10.
Jay (7-4) held a 27-21 lead at the half but could not find their offense in the third as the Lady Comets pulled to within one at 36-35 heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Comets (9-1) pulled away in the fourth, leading by as much as six midway through the period and by five with a minute left before thwarting a Jay comeback attempt with just enough free throws. Ritter hit a three from the top of the arc with two seconds left for the final margin.
In the boys' game it was Jay with the comeback, outscoring the Comets 18-8 in the final period for a 57-52 win.
Brent Smoke and Kyle Shambaugh scored 13 and 12 points to lead the Bulldogs (7-4), who trailed by five both at halftime and at the end of the third.
Corey Cowan had 21 for Kansas (5-5), while Ethan Fausett added 13.
