GHS senior Justin Falley, an All State cross-country runner, was the overall winner of the inaugural 5K Pelican Power Run in Grove last month.
Falley completed the distance in a time of 18:57 to finish in front of Grove’s Caleb White.
Alanna Trillo of Grove won the women’s division with a time of 28:06.
The race was sponsored by the Grand Lake Family YMCA and sanctioned by the USATF.
“It was about 28 degrees at race time and we had a NW wind blowing at 15 miles an hour,” said Grand Lake Family YMCA Director Butch Christy. “It was cold.”
Sponsors for the event were Sanco Lumber, Wings of the Cherokees, and Max Windsor of Edward Jones Investments.
“We also want to thank the City of Grove and their emergency management group that secured road ways and did an excellent job of controlling traffic,” Christy said.
The race began and ended at the Grove Rotary Park after trailing through the countryside of the immediate area.
The 2009 edition of the Pelican Power Run is tentatively scheduled for October 3rd during the City of Grove’s annual Pelican Festival.
Ida Sue Gray served as the race director this year and Glen’s Racing Service handled the timing duties.
