The GHS basketball teams entered into their Christmas vacation on the heels of a split performance Friday night at Pirate Arena in Locust Grove.

The Lady Red saw off a late LGHS charge to secure a 55-51 victory while the Ridgerunners battled hard against the undefeated and #18 4A ranked Pirates before falling 62-48.

Led by 21 points from Kat Johnson the Lady Ridgerunners got a pair of clutch late field goals from seniors Logan Cook and Peri Lane, along with a pair of free throws from freshman Taylor Dodson, to break a 49-49 tie with just under three minutes to play.

Lane finished with 11 points and Dodson seven to round out the Lady Red high scorers.

The Ridgerunners posted a fierce second half rally to cut a 19-point deficit to eight points midway through the fourth quarter.

Senior Jake Martin and Josh Harjo helped key the rally along with a trey from senior Cody Medeiros.

The GHS teams will go their separate ways in January. The Lady Red will feature in the NEO Tourney as they defend their championship from last season. Meanwhile, the Ridgerunners will travel to Jay for action in the Tri-State Tournament.
