GROVE – The Grove Lady Ridgerunners basketball team opened their ’09-’10 campaign with a convincing 53-28 win over Wyandotte (1-2) here Tuesday night.

“Our effort was great tonight,” Grove head coach Richard Bassett said. “We had people diving for loose balls and things like that. I was very impressed with our effort.”

Grove took a three-point 11-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and stretched it to a 29-18 advantage at the break. From there the Lady Red took a 40-23 lead into the final stanza.

Grove shared the wealth offensively. No player broke into double digit scoring but 10 different Lady Ridgerunners scored points, led by Kat Johnson with nine. Senior Peri Lane posted eight with teammate Shea Scott landing seven.

“Kat was a surprise to me tonight,” Bassett said. “We had some people hurt and that’s the reason she came in so much. But if she continues to play like that then she’ll see more time in the rotation.”

Kristen Enyart was the leading scorer for the Lady Bears with 12 points all landed from beyond the three point arc. Kayla Oleman scored nine.

The Lady Red host Wagoner on Thursday while the Lady Bears look to regroup at home against Quapaw.
