Despite the snow and ice covering the ground it’s already time to start preparations for the boys of summer as Grove Sports is set to open registrations for their 2009 baseball, softball, and T-ball programs.

This season will mark the first occasion in some time when a youth softball league will be offered in Grove.

Registrations will commence on Thursday February 19th and run through to Saturday the 21st. Registration times on the 19th and 20th are from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Grove Early Childhood Development Center. Registration for Saturday the 21st will be at the Community Center, room number 4, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Additional registration sites will be announced in the coming days. The dates and times listed will be open for registration in any of three sports offered this season by Grove Sports, Inc.

Registration costs for T-ball are $50. Baseball and softball registration costs are $60. Players from the same households will receive $10 off each additional entry fee. The cost will go to cover things such as insurance, T-shirt, hat, trophies, and field utilities and maintenance.

The various leagues are open to all interested children. There are no boundary restrictions or try-outs.

Parents will need to bring a copy of their child’s birth certificate to register. A copy of a CDIB card should be brought along as well if the child has one. Grove Sports will not hold a draft to select teams. Parents can choose which team they wish for their child to play on provided that the coach’s roster is not filled up.

Once the season begins each T-ball team will play one game a week while baseball and softball teams will feature in two games per week. Softball and baseball teams will play two games a week; one in Grove and the other in a nearby town under the same sanctioning body.

Games should begin in mid-April and the season will run to mid-June. Practices will be at the discretion of individual coaches.

The leagues are in need of coaches. Interested parties will have to fill out a brief application form and comply with a background check to meet safety regulations set in place by Grove Sports and their insurance companies.
