Big second quarter gets Eagles rivalry win

AFTON - Brooks Victor's 16 points led the way for the Afton Eagles as they beat their neighborhood rivals from Fairland 48-37 Tuesday.

Victor scored nine of his points in the fourth quarter to hold off the Owls.

After falling behind 11-8 after the first quarter the Owls, Afton (5-2) held the visitors to a single point while scoring 13 of their own to take a 21-12 lead into the break.

Brennon Fuser scored six of his seven points during the decisive quarter to help spur the Eagles into the lead.

Dillon Sanford scored eight of his team-high 11 points for Fairland in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough.

Dusty Henry added nine points for Afton, while Dillon Seamon and Caleb Reynolds had nine points each for Fairland.

Adair girls too much for Wyandotte

WYANDOTTE - Adair jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as the 3A No. 2 Lady Warriors rolled to a 52-29 victory over Wyandotte here Tuesday night.

"Adair has a good bunch," Wyandotte coach John Leppla said. "We did our best. Looney (freshman guard Kylie Looney) only had nine. We took her out of the equation pretty well."

The Lady Warriors (7-0) were up 30-14 at the half, but Wyandotte narrowed the gap to 40-25 heading into the final stanza.

Alex Lyons had 14 points for the Lady Bears. Patience Logan added eight.

While Looney had nine, Adair also got seven from Bailey Stephens and six from Jenny Flemming.

Wyandotte hosts Baxter Springs, Kan., Friday night.
