The Wyandotte Lady Bears softball club advanced their season record to 21-4 Saturday and won the Fall Classic Tourney with an 11-0 win over Fairland.
Kourtney Leppla picked up the win in Saturday’s final. Leppla struck out seven FHS batters and only gave up two runs the entire tournament.
WHS leadoff batter Ashlee Waybright had a big day against Fairland. Going 4 for 4 at the plate Waybright had a two run homer in the fourth, and an RBI double in the sixth. Waybright ended the game with three RBI’s.
Lady Bear Kirsten Leppla hit .500 in the tournament and had six coubles and seven RBI’s for the five games.
The Lady Owls advanced to the championship finals with wins over Afton, 9-2; Kansas, 4-0; and Commerce, 2-1.
“We played really well,” Lady Owl Head Coach Jana Bartley said. “The wins over Kansas and Commerce were pretty big.”
FHS ace Kortney Kowal collected the three wins. Kowal, who was named to the All Tournament team, gave up two hits and collected nine strikeouts against Afton.
In the Kansas game Kowal struck out eight while only giving up one hit.
The Lady Owls took advantage of a three-run, three-hit, first inning, including an RBI double from Bekky Gebhart, to take control of the Lady Comet contest.
Against Commerce the Lady Owls collected both of their runs in the first inning to hold off the Lady Tigers in five innings.
The All Tournament Team consisted of: First base, Baseman Audra Graham from Inola; pitcher, Lexi Mercer from Welch; centerfield, Shannon Foreman from Kansas; catcher, Mandy Watson from Commerce; shortstop, Theresa KetKeo from Colcord; shortstop, Cheyanne Bass from Quapaw; pitcher, Kortney Kowal from Fairland; third base, Shelbie VanPielt from Afton; and shortstop Kirsten Leppla from Wyandotte.
