MIAMI- Jarrett Crouch of Jay, Okla., a freshman at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, was selected by Ron Sutton’s Winners Circle, (RSWC); one of the largest and most established NASCAR-focused programs, to attend the NASCAR 2010 Shoot-Out this weekend in Sacramento, Calif. Crouch will compete against other skilled drivers from all over the country for a coveted spot on the team.
Crouch said he took an interest in racing when he was just six years old and has turned down four football scholarships to pursue racing on a professional level.
“It is such an honor to be selected to race at the Shoot-Out,” Crouch said. “There are many skilled drivers who would jump at the opportunity that I have been given.”
Ron Sutton is president of RSWC and serves as an independent talent scout focused on the driver development of young drivers to groom them for NASCAR Cup teams.
The Shoot-Out application process was open to drivers between 11 and 20 years of age, with race winning backgrounds. The goal of the program is to find the next young drivers with the talent and commitment to go all the way to professional racing careers in NASCAR, according to the RSWC Web site. The drivers will be raced, groomed, coached, tested, trained and molded into what NASCAR Cup teams want in their drivers.
Crouch, 19, will be traveling to Calif. this Thursday for the NASCAR 2010 Shoot-Out. The event is three days and consists of multiple diverse tests, a training class for drivers and parents and 100 laps of ‘on-track’ driving.
Crouch will undergo tests in body fat fitness, psychological analysis and problem solving skills.
Sutton and a panel of 12 judges will evaluate each driver individually based on 45 areas, including; coachability, accurate feedback, focus, training retention, motivation, communication skills, personality, aggressiveness, learning rate, confidence and lap times.
RSWC will award six free spots to drivers from various forms of youth motorsports. If chosen, Crouch would be assigned to one of the 24 teams under the direction of Sutton and race in the western region of the United States.
The Crouch family will be hosting an Indian taco lunch this coming Wednesday, October 20th in Jay, Okla. to earn money for their son’s traveling expenses.
