YUKON – Grove senior Ryan Wheatley capped his running career with two of his best races in a two-hour span.
First, Wheatley posted his best time of the season in the 800 meters by almost three seconds, winning in a time of 1:55.98, a full second ahead of Walker Clampitt of Duncan. He then followed that up with one of his best times in the 400, finishing second to Claremore’s Tyler Jackson in a time of 49.21. Jackson’s winning time was a blistering 47.87.
Wheatley’s medals, along with Rocky Jeffries’s fifth place finish in the discus, helped the Ridgerunners to a tie for 10th with Coweta in the team standings with 20 points.
Junior Michaela Werner made it a double on Saturday, pairing her win in the 3200 on Friday with an equally dominant win in the 1600 on Saturday. Werner finished in 5:21.42, over nine seconds ahead of Paige Hughes of Shawnee.
Senior Ashleigh Tramel also finished her career on Saturday with another medal, earning fifth place in the 800 meters. Tramel also ran a leg of the 3200-meter relay team that finished fourth on Friday.
The Lady Ridgerunners finished in fifth place in the team standings with 51 points, one point behind Altus.
Edmond Deer Creek won both the boys and girls team titles in Class 5A.
