Jay Lady Bulldog senior Hannah Ritter accepted a scholarship and signed a letter of intent to attend Fort Hays State University (KS) at a ceremony last week at Bulldog Arena.

Ritter, the daughter of Jerry and Cheryl Ritter of Jay, saw a life-long ambition fulfilled with her acceptance to the school.

“I’ve wanted to play college basketball since I was a little kid,” Ritter said. “I’ve always wanted to do it.”

Besides her parents, JHS Lady Bulldog basketball head coach Terry Sweeney attended the signing. Also present were older sister Bailey Ritter and younger sister, and JHS teammate Meghan Ritter. Grandmother Sherry Johnson of Jay and Ritter’s AAU summer league Oklahoma Mustangs coach Ruben Diaz attended as well.

“My mom has been a really big influence on all of this,” Ritter said. “She and my grandmother have always supported me. They’ve traveled with me during the AAU and with Jay.

“They’ve always been then for me and they told me I could do it,” Ritter added.

Ritter is a true Jay product, having attended the school system from kindergarten. She has been a three-year starter for the Lady Bulldogs.
