Former Grove student Damien Hopper, the grandson of Dr. Robert and Jan Hopper, recently competed in the Pennsylvania AA High School State Wrestling Championships for Allentown Central Catholic High School, finishing fourth in the three-day event.
Hopper, competing at 135 pounds, lost to Ronnie Gabinsky in his opening round match. After winning his next four matches to move into the consolation finals, Hopper lost to Jeremy Landowski by a 1-0 score to claim fourth. Hopper also claimed second at the district meet and third at regionals.
Hopper won a state title for Grove his freshman year and will be competing with Pennsylvania U.S.A. Wrestling this summer. He is currently being recruited by a number of Division I wrestling programs, including Lehigh, Lockhaven and the U.S. Naval Academy.
