GHS senior Dusty Gehrke has qualified for the USA Track and Field National Meet in Omaha, NE this Saturday in the pole vault competition. Gehrke secured his spot in the national event on the power of a second place finish two weeks ago in the USATF States’ Regional Meet at the University of Tulsa.
Last weekend Gehrke was invited to the University of Illinois to participate in a pole-vaulting clinic. The meeting at Champaign featured some of the top collegiate vaulters in the nation as well as a select number of high school competitors.
Gehrke is regarded by many in the sport as one of the top five vaulters in the nation at the prep level.
The event this weekend in Omaha, known officially as the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championship, will feature over 6,000 athletes from across the nation. This year will mark the 42nd edition of the meet and it will take place at the Burke High School in Omaha.
