I am so happy! The hot weather is pretty much behind us. This is the best time of year to be on the water fishing.† It feels so great to be out. The fish are biting for the most part but you can still have tough days.

I fished one morning with Garry Portor, who has a place on Monkey Island. We went largemouth fishing. We caught about 40 blacks but had a tough time catching big ones. Garry had one close to four pounds, which was the biggest. We caught them mid-lake, on boat docks and points.

The white bass we caught this week were shallow. We fished on the days when it was very calm, with virtually no wind. We still caught them about 1 to 2 feet deep. The big motor was dragging bottom some. On windy days the whites have moved to the banks in some areas. I canít find them out deep now at all.

I keep hearing good reports on crappie from private boat docks but I havenít been able to find them really good on the sunken brush piles. It shouldnít be long. I love to fish for crappie. Grand Lake is a great place to fish in the fall.
