The Grove Lady Red softball team will face a field loaded with top teams when they travel to Broken Arrow for a softball tournament on Friday and Saturday.
In addition to the host Lady Tigers, who won the 6A state title in fast pitch last October, the field will include Union (slow pitch state champs in 2010), Caney Valley (3A fast pitch champions in 2009) and Mustang, who finished second to Broken Arrow last fall.
Additionally the Jenks Lady Trojans, who are undefeated on the young season, as well as Claremore Sequoyah and Tahlequah Sequoyah will be in the tournament. Both of those teams were semifinalists in last year’s state tournament. The Lady Eagles of Claremore Sequoyah have already defeated the Lady Red once this year, a 1-0 decision at the season-opening Grand Lake Softball Festival.
The field will be broken up into four pools for Friday’s play. In Grove’s pool will be Owasso, perennial 6A power Yukon, Sperry, Hilldale, Choctaw, Mannford and Muskogee. Hilldale was a surprise semifinalist in Class 4A last year and one of the top teams in the state this fall.
The tournament will kick off Friday morning at 10 a.m at Arrowhead Park in Broken Arrow with pool play. Bracket play will begin on Saturday morning.
