The Ridgerunners lost the home opener to the Indians on Friday, Sept. 15 in a 40-55 game.

Grove playing its last non-district game of the season and the first home game took an early lead in the game at 20-13 by the end of the first quarter.

Toby Cearley and Dalton Cash put up all three touchdowns for the Ridgerunners in the first quarter.

Cearley showed solid awareness gaining ground with a combination of plays placing Grove close to the end zone for short runs on two of the three touchdowns of the quarter.

The third was a 41 yard run from Cearley followed up by a two point conversion.

Stilwell came back in the second quarter and managed to spread out the Grove defense allowing for three touchdowns.

Grove lost significant ground in the second quarter of play with Stilwell putting up 21 to their six points putting them in a position to spend the remaining of the game playing catchup.

The Indians threw for a 40 yard touchdown pass in the first few seconds in the second quarter to tie the game up.

The second 41 yard touchdown just a few minutes later forced Grove to adjust their play to answer the passing game.

Despite trailing 26-34 the Ridgerunners left the field in high spirits as there was still sufficient time remaining to return to the game.

The third quarter of play was an evenly matched quarter with both teams putting 14 points on the board.

The Indians opened the quarter with a two yard touchdown run by Tyson Fourkiller and were answered by Cash bringing in his own two yard touchdown to be followed by a two point conversion.

After another score by the Indians Grove answered with Nick Estrada scoring a 39 yard touchdown run.

Leaving the quarter Grove was still in the game trailing 40-48.

The fourth quarter saw a quick score by the Indians with Fourkiller getting a 22 yard touchdown pass.

The Ridgerunners were unable to score after falling behind early in the fourth.

Grove, while visibly tired, continued to work hard in holding Stilwell preventing the Indians from scoring additional points to close the game out at 40-55 their opponent's favor.

The Ridgerunners started Cearley in the quarterback position for this game who put up a total of 16 out of 32 passing attempts for 269 total passing yards and 126 yards rushing.

Major pass receptions were by Davis Dills with seven for 151 yards, Cash with six for 79 yards, Matt Amos with two for 30 yards and Jonas Chaney with one for nine yards.

For rushing big numbers were put up by Nick Estrada with nine rushes for 104 yards, Cash with 11 rushes for 47 yards, Kadian Forbis with five rushes for 33 yards, Dills with two rushes for 19 yards and Josh Carillo with two rushes for three yards.

The Ridgerunners continue to show statistical improvement in areas such as passing and rushing yards each game of the season and will practice in preparation of their first district game of the season at home at 7 p.m., Friday Sept. 22 against Catoosa.

Volunteers from the Grove Football Booster Club and the Grove Cheer Booster Club are hosting a "Tailgate Party" at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22, at the practice field next to Ridgerunner Stadium.

The event will include hot dogs, drinks, games, face painting, temporary tattoos, bounce house and more.

A helicopter is scheduled to deliver the game ball - weather and schedule permitting - before the Ridgerunners kick off against Catoosa at 7 p.m., for the first district game of the season.

All Grove youth football players are encouraged to come dressed in their jerseys, to run onto the field with the varsity players.

All Grove youth cheerleaders are encouraged to come in uniform, to help the Grove Varsity Cheerleaders bring the players onto the field before kickoff.
