The Lady Red put two more wins on their record in games against Locust Grove and Claremore Sequoyah this week bringing their record to 13-2.
The game against Locust Grove was a shut out with a win in the seventh inning a 5-0.
Katie Bunch came in as Grove’s opening pitcher for the first four innings racking up a total of seven strikeouts and 12 first pitch strikes.
Defensively Bunch averaged 0.75 walk hits per innings pitched compared to the Lady Pirates 1.33 WHIP.
Mikalle Pair relieved Bunch to pitch the last three innings, closing the game for the Lady Red with two additional strikeouts and seven first pitch strikes.
Despite being hit by the pitch on four separate occasions the Lady Red brought in five RBIs for the night.
Emma Fields was the first to put points on the board with a sacrifice bunt allowing Blaise Redus to score.
Grove continued to take every opportunity to steal they were presented with taking a total of eight stolen bases for the game two each by Kianna Pellegrino and Anna Pace.
By the bottom of the sixth Grove had scored one run every inning except the first giving them a win over Locust Grove and cementing their lead in the district.
Lady Red was on the road Tuesday Aug. 29 for their game against Claremore Sequoyah.
Bunch pitched all seven innings for a 3-2 win over the Lady Eagles racking up five strikeouts and 18 first pitch strikes.
Claremore took an early one run lead in the bottom of the first and both teams prevented additional runs until the fifth.
Grove tied the game up in the top of the fifth and proceeded to take the lead the following inning with two additional runs.
The Lady Eagles answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of Grove.
Macee Barnes brought in two RBIs against the Lady Eagles who had a total of seven hits compared to the Lady Red’s three for the night.
The game against Claremore Sequoyah went the full seven innings as the Lady Eagles were unable to tie the game sending it to extra innings.
The Lady Red will be traveling to Erie, Colorado for the Tournament of Champions for two days of play wrapping up Saturday Sept. 2 with an additional five games under their belt.
Games in Colorado will be non-league games against Loveland, Arvada West, Cherokee Trail, Dakota Ridge and Eaglecrest.
With their recent wins taken into account the Lady Red are currently leading District 4A-6 with a win loss record of 6-1 followed by Vinita with a 5-1 record.
In the entire 4A district the Lady Red are looking good at this point in their season with only two other schools having better records, both Tuttle and Lone Grove are 6-0 in their districts.
With the Softball season only half way over there are still too many games left to predict district standings.
