The Dewey Tournament has come to an end and the Lady Red have finished in second.
The week long tournament did not end quite in Grove's favor. The first round pitted the Lady Red against Dewey's JV team. The game ended as a win for Grove with a score of 54-10.
The second round match up was between Grove and Cleveland. The Lady Tigers defeated Bishop Kelley 29-15 to make it into the semi-finals. The Lady Red took home their second win of the tournament with a score of 44-21.
The championship game was set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 21. Grove was set to face 4A seventh-ranked Vinita. The Lady Hornets topped Daniel Webster (80-4) and Pawhuska (52-12) to get into the finals.
The first quarter of the championship game ended with a score of 8-3 in the Lady Hornets favor.
In the second Grove scored eleven, while Vinita scored 14, for a halftime score of 22-14.
The third quarter resulted in thirteen points for the Lady Hornets. Meanwhile the Lady Red scored a mere nine.
Going into the fourth, Vinita had their second 14 point quarter. Grove scored eight, but it would not be enough as the Lady Red fell 49-31.
The Lady Red's scoring was led by Alisha Jones, who had nine. Macee Barnes scored seven and Mady Kraft had four.
Grove's next challenge comes in the form of 5A eleventh-ranked Pryor. The Lady Tigers are 10-5 and have scored 727 points this season for an average of 48.4 points per game.
The Lady Tigers are led by senior Hunter Gilstrap. Gilstrap is a 5-8 point guard who has been the leading scorer for nearly ten of Pryor's 15 games. Also on the court are juniors Halee Nichols (5-7, shooting guard) and Sarah Wood (5-6, shooting guard). In the lane are juniors Faith Lanham (5-11, center) and Autumn Miller (5-9, center). Also in the paint is sophomore McKayla Hillman (6-0, center).
Tipoff will be at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, in Pryor.
