The Ridgerunners have won their first tournament of the 2016-17 season.
Grove brought home the hardware after three wins at the Dewey Tournament on January 16-21. The first round of the tournament had Grove matched up with Dewey JV. The Ridgerunners won the first round 54-10 and moved on to the semi-finals.
In the second round of play, Grove faced Daniel Webster. Webster defeated Vinita 60-54 in the first round. The Ridgerunners bested Webster 64-53 to make it to the finals.
In the championship game, Grove was set to play 4A fifteenth-ranked Cleveland. The Tigers had topped both Bishop Kelley's JV team (62-51) and the home team, Dewey (83-58).
The game started with Grove scoring 14 points and holding the Tigers to the three.
In the second, Cleveland outscored the Ridgerunners, accumulating 16 points to Grove's 15. At the half, the score stood 29-19, Grove.
The third quarter was the lowest scoring quarter for the Ridgerunners, with eleven points. The Tigers scored six, putting the at score 40-25.
The final quarter was the cherry on top for Grove. The Ridgerunners scored twenty to Cleveland's twelve for a final score of 60-37.
Grove's scoring was led by Dillan Miller, who had 21. Brady Phillips scored 19 and Zane Knox had eight.
Cleveland's high scorer was Hayden Glasgow, who had 14. Rafael Galaviz had nine and Caden Krotzer had eight.
Grove's next game pits the Ridgerunners against the Pryor Tigers. The Tigers are 9-6 this season and have scored 917 points for an average of 61.1 points per game.
The Tigers have a solid five players, led by senior Tyler Arnold. Arnold, a 6-2 guard, has surpassed the 300 point mark this season, even scoring 51 points in the game against Verdigris.
Arnold is joined on the court by fellow senior Grant Crupper (6-2, guard) and juniors Kobe Robinson (6-2, shooting guard), Will Considine (6-3, center) and Max Jordan (6-0, shooting guard).
Game time is set for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, in Pryor.
