The eighthteenth-ranked Grove Ridgerunners have won another duel.

On Tuesday, January 17, the Ridgerunners hosted rival Miami. The Wardogs wrestling team has had a rough season, entering the dual with a 4-13 record. Grove, on the other hand, came to the mat with a 3-2 record, with wins over Jay (3A, #17), East Central and Edison Prep (5A #13).

Grove 51, Miami 31

106 - Greg Bandy started things off. Bandy would win by decision, 10-4. 3-0, Grove.

113 - Jace Getz won by forfeit. 9-0, Grove.

120 - Grove’s Mike Tims would work hard, but lose 14-3 to Miami’s Calvin Stone. 9-4, Grove.

126 - Caiden Wyatt started hot, nearly pinning his opponent. However Miami you wrestle back and pin Wyatt at 3:20, taking their only lead of the dual. 10-9, Miami.

132 - Senior Gaven Honeycutt took to the mat pinning his opponent at the 2:16 mark, regaining the lead for the Ridgerunners. 15-10, Grove.

138 - Fellow senior Dalton Hardy would also pin his opponent, at the 2:43 mark, gaining six more points for the Ridgerunners. 21-10, Grove.

145 - Garrett Messimore was well matched by T. J. Griffith. The two duked it out, but Griffith would win 6-2. 21-13, Grove.

152 - Brendan Hernandez won by forfeit. 27-13, Grove.

160 - Dalton King won by forfeit. 33-13, Grove.

170 - Anthony Thomas fought right up until the he was pinned at the 5:02 mark. 33-19, Grove.

182 - Matt Amos won by forfeit. 39-19, Grove.

195 - Skyler Hernandez face a difficult opponent. The match went into overtime. Hernandez lost by decision, 6-4. 39-21, Grove.

220 - Dawson Tanner won by forfeit. 45-21, Grove.

285 - Sophomore Caleb Jones made short work of his opponent, catching him by the leg, knocking him off balance and pinning him at 0:32. 51-21, Grove.

The Ridgerunner wrestlers will now travel to the Coweta Tournament to compete on Friday and Saturday, January 20-21.
