Charles “Speedy” Wheeler, 77, of Afton, Oklahoma passed away Friday, June 4, 2010 peacefully at his home with his family around him.

He was born to Clarence and Beatrice (Stevens) Wheeler December 6, 1932 in Commerce, Oklahoma.

He married Mary Jo Abernathy on August 6, 1953 in Commerce, Oklahoma. They were blessed with five children, Jerry and his wife Marlene Wheeler of Kennett, Mo.; Roy and his wife Linda Wheeler of Neosho, Mo.; Lisa and her husband Rusty Hager of Ponca City, Okla.; and Steven and his wife Tami of Afton, Okla.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He retired from Afton Vo-tech in 1989 where he taught welding.  He was also a farmer and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fairland, Oklahoma.

He was a veteran and served during the Korean War and was very proud of his service.

He was also a loyal lifelong Democrat.

He received his Bachelors Degree from Oklahoma State University, and his Master from Pittsburg State College.

Services will be held Tuesday 1 p.m., June 8, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Fairland with the Rev. Carol Minter officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Treece, Kansas under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, Okla.

Pallbearers will be Robert Norman, Joshua Wheeler, Jordan Rowe, Steven Fioretti, Tyler Bridges, Kelly Knuckles.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Cody Wheeler and Chris Conrad.
