Harvey J Spohn, age 76, died peaceably Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 in his own home, surrounded by his family.

Harvey was born in Pitcher Oklahoma to Martin and Rosa Spohn, Oct. 23, 1934. He met Beverly Gallenkamp of Miami, Okla. on a blind date and after a whirlwind courtship they were married August 15, 1955.

Harvey was a graduate of Grove High School and attended KCCBS in Overland Park, Kan. He worked many years as a mechanic, welder, and purchasing agent. He retired as Director of Purchasing from Simmons Industry in Southwest City, Mo.

Alongside his secular job, he was a full-time minister with the Church of God Holiness and Nazarene Church, then in retirement years, a part-time minister with the Southern Baptist Assoc. He was a Gideon, a Promise Keeper, a member of the Ministerial Alliance, and a political campaigner for various nominees. He always found more time to help all his neighbors; he was the Good Samaritan personified.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; two daughters, Joyce Clouse, Springfield, Mo. and Jaqueline Prettyman, Fort Scott, Kan.; one son, Loren Spohn of Augusta, Kan.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Eugene and Dennis Spohn, Grove, Okla. and Marvin Spohn, Illinois.
