Charles Norman Fink, age 91, of Cherryvale, Kansas and formerly of Grove, Oklahoma died Friday, November 28, 2008 at the Cherryvale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas with the Rev. Dick Drumeller of the Crystalbrook Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas.
Visitation was held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 1, 2008 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or the Cherryvale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and contributions maybe left at the Potts Chapel.
Norman was born May 25, 1917 in rural Cherryvale, KS to Charles O. and Nina E. Vanderpoel Fink. He grew up in Cherryvale, Ks and graduated from the Cherryvale High School as Salutatorian. On April 15, 1943 Norman married Evelyn Irene Housel in Cherryvale, KS. She preceded him in death on December 10, 2007 After graduation from High School, Norman served in the United States Air Force as a pilot and flight instructor for 10 years. After his honorable discharge Norman worked for Continental Can Company before co-founding Bruest Industries. Bruest was sold in 1968 and he and his wife, Evelyn started Charloma Inc., in Cherryvale, KS in 1969 and operataed the business until their retirement. The business is still operated by the family. Norman farmed in rural Cherreyvale and was a member of the Fortitude Lodge #107 in Independence, Kansas.
Survivors include one son Charles O. Fink and daughter Alice L. Wells both of Cherryvale, KS; four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A brother Dighton Fink, two sisters Carrie Duby and Erma Humphrey and one granddaughter Shannon Ward also preceded him in death.
