Bud Oakley, former Ottaw County commissioner, died at Craig General Hospital in Vinita, Sept. 5, 2009, after a lengthy illness. He was 76. Mr. Oakley was born Feb. 8, 1933, at Afton, to George and Audra (Stotts) Oakley. He was a veteran, having served in the US Army from 1953-1955. He had worked as a rancher, carpenter, and county commissioner from 1995-2000. He married Mary Ann Rame on Nov. 17, 1955, at Afton. She preceded him. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Big Cabin, and a Master Mason in Afton Lodge #76. He is survived by two sons, Buddy Oakley and wife, Della, of Fairland, Roger Oakley of Afton, daughter and her husband, Londa and Cleve Owens, of Afton, brother and his wife, Ted and Neta Jo Oakley of Fairland, and sisters, Shirley and Bob Payton of Miami, Ruth and Truman Geouge of Miami, Dorothy Mayes of Afton, and Ruby Hays of Vinita, 11 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Services were at 2:00 p.m., Sep. 10, 2009, at First Christian Church in Afton, with Minister Tim McMillan officiating. Burial was at Sixkiller Cemetery. Arrangements provided by Adcock Funeral Home.
