Vernon Whitney, 67, of Eucha, Okla. passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at his home in Eucha, Okla. Vernon was born in Cherokee, Oklahoma on October 4, 1942 to Lester and Bessie (Potter Hall) Whitney. 

Vernon married Bobbie Keener in Vinita, Okla. in 1979. He started working for Tank and Tower, was self-employed with Whitney Construction in Miami, Okla. and continued self-employment in Raleigh, N.C., before retiring and moving to his home in Eucha, Okla. Vernon enjoyed reading western books and playing card games. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting pheasant and quail. Vernon also loved gardening and growing vegetables, last year alone he sold over 2,000 lbs of tomatoes.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Bessie Whitney. 

Vernon is survived by his wife, Bobbie Keener of the home; two step-sons, Terry Neal and wife Lori of Jay, Okla. and Rocky Neal of Grapevine, Texas; three sisters, Barbara Green and husband Richard of Welch, Okla., Linda McCullum and husband

Ray of Springfield, Mo., and Karen Doty and husband Tom of Springdale, Ark.; two step-granddaughters, Heather Neal and Lindy Phillips; one great-granddaughter, Jayce Phillips; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday June 3, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Grand Lake Funeral Home in Jay, Okla.  The Rev. Tom Doty will officiate. Interment to follow at Jumper Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at the Grand Lake Funeral Home in Jay, Okla.
