Edna McCoy Garrett, 97, of West Siloam Springs, Okla. passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehab Center in Siloam Springs, Ark.
Mrs. Garrett was born April 23, 1913 in Adair Co. Okla.; the daughter of Thomas & Bessie (Henson) McCoy. Edna was the widow of the late Earl Thomas “Shorty” Garrett; whom she married on February 19, 1949 in Bentonville, Ark. After receiving her teaching degree from Northeastern State University she went on to teach a various schools, Skelley School, Rock Branch School, Moseley School and Carnes School. Edna and her husband were dairy farmers, known for their apple orchard, she like the outdoors, her garden and taking care of others. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation and of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Glenn Stinchcomb, Dallas, Texas; Ray Stinchcomb, Catoosa, Okla.; Bob Stinchcomb, Ft. Gibson, Okla.; Mary Ruth Stinchcomb, Meadows, Texas; Zona Brenner Stinchcomb, Eufaula, Okla.; Bud Stinchcomb, Watts, Okla.; Gene Garrett, Arlington, Texas; Everret “Peck” Ames, West Siloam Springs, Okla.; Delphie Phipps, Colcord, Okla.; J.T. Mounce, DeQueen, Ark.; Charles Golden, Tulsa, Okla.; Bill Mounce, Watts, Okla.; James Ames, Watts, Okla.; Bob Mounce, Florida; Peggy McCoy Watson, Tulsa, Okla.; and Leota Ames McCain, Bridgeport, Okla.
Mrs. Garrett was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Jesse McCoy, Oscar Lee McCoy, and Walter McCoy; four sisters, Rosie McCoy Paris, Viletta McCoy Ames, Hattie McCoy Mounce, and Fannie McCoy Golden; and a niece Joyce Stinchcomb,
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Services for Mrs. Garrett will be held at the Backstrom – Pyeatte Chapel in Siloam Springs, Ark. on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. Rev. Larry Ellis will officiate the service.
Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Backstrom – Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, Ark.
