BENNIE D. DODSON

JULY 9, 1030 – FEBRUARY 22, 2008

GROVE - Bennie Dodson was born July 9, 1930 in Tipton, Oklahoma and left his earthly home in Grove for a joyous reunion in Heaven on February 22, 2008.

Ben became a barber at a very early age, a skill which he was able to use during his tour of duty in the Navy from 1052-1956. After leaving the Navy he was hired by GMAC in San Diego, CA as an accountant. In 1957 he was transferred to a branch in El Centro, CA where he met the love of his life, Charlene. They married in 1960 and in 1964 moved to Oklahoma.

Ben accepted Christ as his Savior in the early 1950’s and in 1968 he began to feel a call of God on his life for full-time Christian service. On June 1, 1978 he accepted what he considered the most satisfying career of his lifetime. For 22 years, until his retirement on July 31, 2001, he served as Business Administrator at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and brother. He leaves behind to celebrate his life his wife of 48 years, Charlene, sons Alcuim Wray, Jeff Dodson and wife Debbie, one daughter Shelan Hart and husband Kennard. He also claimed as one of his “kids” Shelly Ugarrte, a niece who came to live with them at the age of 15, granddaughter Amanda Grogan (Jeff), Kendra Dodson, Jessica Hart, Desiree Bailey (Keith), grandson Ronnie Stiles (Lisa) and three great granddaughters, Gracie, Annie, and Shyanne, sisters-in-law Estel Dodson, Linda Morasca (James), brothers-in-law Richard Measures (Cathi), Bill Measures (Nancy) and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life was held in Grove at Cornerstone Church on Sunday afternoon, February 24th at 2:00 p.m. A second memorial will be held at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, on Wednesday, February 27, at 10:00 a.m. Internment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
