Almena May Guthrey Nelson, 91,of Tulsa, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Born March 9, 1919 in Prairie Grove, Ark., to Harvey and Eva Lucinda (Tucker) May.

She and her husband, Wm. Morris Guthrey partnered with his sister and husband and operated GLAM egg farm in Collinsville, Okla. After 52 years of marriage, Morris Guthrey, a longtime Texas Co. employee passed away in 1994. She married Earl Nelson in 1996. He preceded her in death in 2003. Almena owned Merle Norman Studios in Collinsville and Claremore. She operated the Tuberculosis Mobile X-Ray Unit for the Tulsa County Lung Assoc. and was an Ambassador for Secure Horizons in Tulsa.

Had Almena made it to this year’s Jay High school reunion she would have been the oldest living member of the 1937 graduating class.

Her brothers, Atwell, Ray and Donald and sister, Louella Mason, also, preceded her in death.

Surviving her are three daughters and husbands, Mavis (Jack) Arnold, Cindy (Bill) Parrott, Robbin (Jim) Tillman; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Gale May; and sister, Opal Dee Timmel.

Family will receive friends, Sunday, 3-5 p.m. at Freeman Harris Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 16, 2010 at Freeman Harris.

The family requests contributions in her memory be made to Clarehouse, 7616 S. Mingo Rd. Tulsa.
