ERVIN ROY ENGEL

SEPTEMBER 16, 1913 - MARCH 26, 2008

 TAHLEQUAH -  Ervin Engel, 94-year-old resident of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, former longtime resident of Moseley, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at his home in Goye Village in Tahlequah, where he had resided for the past 2 1/2 years. Born September 16, 1913, in Corn, Oklahoma, he was the son of Fred A. Engel and Elizabeth Penner Engel. Ervin grew up in Corn. He was a graduate of Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He attended school on a wrestling scholarship and received his BS degree in Education. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. Ervin married Gladys Masquelier June 14, 1942. They were married 62 years until her death November 14, 2004. Mr. Engel was a elementary school teacher and administrator for many years at Moseley School and a farmer. In his free time Ervin enjoyed fishing, gardening, Oklahoma football and storytelling. Along with his wife Ervin was preceded in death by three Penny, Pete, and Burt.

Mr. Engel was active in the Gideon International as a Bible distributor. He was a member of Delaware County Retired Teachers Association , and the Anderson Keys American Legion Post 180. He helped found the local Mennonite Brethren. Ervin attended Grace Bible Church and Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Steven Engel and wife Marjorie of Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania; Michael Engel and wife Linda of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Allen Engel and wife Denise of Moseley, Oklahoma; one daughter, Frances Turman and husband Jerry Lee of Stilwell, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren ; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dora Dalke and Edna Abrahams both of Clinton, Oklahoma; Reba Ginn of Oklahoma City; and Elsie Jost of Albany, Oregon.

Visitation was Sunday, March 30, from 3:00P.M. to 5:00P.M.at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs. Funeral services were 2:00P.M. Monday, March 31, at Wasson Memorial Chapel with Chaplain David Blake officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery, Moseley, Oklahoma.
