Michael “Butch” Lee Barnes of Quapaw died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at his home after an illness. He was 63.
He was born Aug. 3, 1946, in Claremore to Richard Jenks and Viola Mae (Dushane) Barnes.
He lived in the Quapaw area most of his life.
He was a veteran of the Army, serving from Aug. 23, 1966, to Aug. 22, 1968, as specialist fourth class, with an M.O.S. as an all wheel vehicle mechanic.
He was a member of the Shawnee Tribe and also a member of Spring River Indian Baptist Church.
Survivors include four brothers, David Barnes and Clifford Barnes, both of Quapaw, Richard Barnes of Grove and Simpson Barnes of Baxter Springs, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Irvin Jenks Barnes and Benny Orson Barnes, and two sisters, Cleora Anita Scott and Barbara Ann Wilson.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Spring River Indian Baptist Church. The Rev. Geoff Buffalo will officiate.
Burial will be in the White Oak Shawnee Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brett, Cliff, Bill, Benjamin and Richard Barnes III, Edward Scott, Joe Wilson, James Harris and Terry Spencer, Jr.
The family will receive friends and relatives at the home of Peggy Spencer, 6897 S. 670 Road, Quapaw.
Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.
