Clarence (Bud) Wheatley, longtime resident of Afton, died at St. Johnís Medical Center in Joplin, early Saturday, September 26, 2009.† He was 77.†
Mr. Wheatley was born October 16, 1931, at Hartford, AR., to John and Emma (Koonce) Wheatley.† He was a veteran, having served in the US Army.† He moved to Afton in 1954, coming from Lawton.† He was a retired tire builder with the B.F. Goodrich Tire Company.†
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Afton, serving as a deacon for many years, and he also served as a city council member for 20 years.† He married Donna Sue Ferguson on Sep. 18, 1951.† She survives of the home.†
Other survivors include a son and his wife, Mike and Tracy Wheatley of Afton; two daughters and their husbands, Dianna and Charles Records of Wyandotte and Linda and Bill Shouse of Wyandotte, two sisters, Barbara Vanatta and Florence Wallace, both of Fairland, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.†
He was preceded by his parents, three brothers, John Wheatley, Hugh Wheatley, and Frank Wheatley, and four sisters, Loretta Wheatley, Francis Chastain, Ola Mae Brasher, and Mary McDonald.†
A graveside service was at 10:00 a.m., Monday, Sep. 28, 2009, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, with Rev. Stan Miller officiating.† Serving as pallbearers were Jerrod Shouse, Michael Shouse, David Records, Robert Lane, Lucas Lane, Charles Records, and Dillon Wheatley.† After the graveside, a Celebration of† Life was held at First Assembly of God Church in Afton.† The family has requested donations to the First Assembly of God Church, in care of the funeral home, in lieu of flowers.†
