Mrs. Guenther was the widow of Dr. Bernard Enloe Guenther. She was born in Valis, Colorado to Leola Hughes Phillips and Ortie Matthew Phillips. She was a homemaker, member of Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, and had worked as a secretary at Tinker Air Force Base while putting her husband through Medical School. She also was the office manager at her husbandís practice in Tulsa, OK.† Lola loved fishing and was an avid OU football fan.† In Collinsville, OK, family and friends frequently came by to enjoy her gracious hospitality and the warm, family atmosphere.
In her later years, although she suffered from multiple health issues, Lola continued her sense of style, remaining effortlessly elegant. Her talent was clearly shown as she created and designed competition twirling costumes for Julie and supported her daughter, Susan, in realizing her dream of becoming a dancer in New York.† Julie especially enjoyed Lolaís creative input in Karats and Keepsakes. Lolaís greatest delight was seeing her only grandson become a political activist with Greenpeace.† She is preceded in death by her only brother, Ortie Alan Phillips.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Susan (Brian) Wingfield-Ritter of San Diego, CA and Julie G. (Jerry) Evans of Macon; grandson, James Parkman Wingfield of San Diego, CA and many lifelong friends.† The family would like to thank the caring and loving staff of Grand Lake Villas, Bolingreen Nursing Home,† the Medical Center of Central GA and the Palliative Care Unit.
