Loyd (L.W.) William Turner, resident of Spavinaw, Okla., died Sunday, March the 27, 2011 at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla. He was 77.
He was a retired truck driver working for Yellow Freight and served in the U.S. Navy. He was the Mayor for the city of Fairland, Okla., from 1975 to 1977 and manager of the Fairland Gas Company. He was a church member of the Cowboy Junction in Vinita, Okla. He was a professional bulldogger in the PRCA. Loyd loved to catfish and run trotlines. He provided the fish for fish fries for his church.
He was born December the 28, 1933 in Miami, Okla., to Bud and Dixie (Caldwell) Turner. He married Rudella VanKirk on May the 23, 1950. She preceded him in death on March the 26, 2008.
He is survived by one son: Jimmy Turner, and spouse Wendi, of Guthrie, Okla., one daughter: Kelley Sharp, and spouse Jack, of Stella, Mo., six grandchildren: Jason Turner, and spouse Shelly, Morgan Holloway, and spouse Joshua, Ashleigh Roddy, and spouse Frank, Heather Sharp, Cody Owens, ten great-grandchildren: Taylor, and Damon Turner, McKenzie, Austin, and Pyper Holloway, Brooklyn Winters, Madison Roddy, Preston, Trenton and Kaisha Owens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rudella, two brothers: Merle Smith and Rev. Clifford Joseph Turner.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April the 3, 2011 at the Cowboy Junction in Vinita, Okla., with Rev. Wade Markham officiating. Family has stated that blue jeans and cowboy boots would be appropriate for the services.
Memorial can be made to the Cowboy Junction Church in care of the Funeral Home.
