David (Dave) Anthony Rieden, 69, passed peacefully at his home in Grove surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 1, 1941 in Portland, Ore.
Dave is survived by his wife AK Rieden; daughter, Lisa (Scott) Brown of Great Falls, Mont.; son, David (Jean) Rieden of East Helena, Mont.; stepson, Martin Kufus of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by grandson, Trenton Brown; granddaughters, Jordann Brown and Jennifer Rieden; and two great-granddaughters, Makayla and Morgan; his sister, Joan Benesch of Spokane, Wash.; nephews, Mike, Jeff and Pat, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by parents Leo and Mary Johnson Rieden and brother-in-law Bob Benesch.
Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Dave joined the Army in 1958 serving as a medic with honorable discharge in 1960. After discharge he settled in Missoula, Mont. and worked at Ogg Shoe Store. Seizing the opportunity and an innate love of aviation, he established a career as an Air Traffic Controller that allowed him to live throughout the western United States.
After retirement he was able to fulfill his passion of flyfishing, organizing the Grand Lake Flotilla with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and continuing in-depth debates of politics with many friends and family.
He was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Texas Border Volunteers, and life member of the Elks Lodge.
Memorial service was held on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church located at 501 E. 13th Street, Grove, Okla. Private family services will be held at a later date for him to rest in Montana at his request.
