MARCH 11, 1921 - DECEMBER 14, 2008

BERNICE - Orville C. Brown, Bernice resident, died at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, after an illness.  He was 87.  Mr. Brown was born March 11, 1921, at Hoxie, KS, to Willie and Sarah (Simon) Brown.

 He was a self-employed rancher, and a construction supervisor.  He married Elaine Nichols on April 9, 1944.  They moved to Bernice in 1990.  She preceded him in 1998.

 He was a member of the Bernice Baptist Church.  He married Ruth Lorenzen on Jan. 13, 2007.  She survives, of the home. 

Other survivors include two sons and their wives, Jim and Elma Brown of Flagstaff, AZ, Bruce and Sherie Brown of Salina KS,; two step-daughters and their husbands, Karen and Clarence McIlvain of Ottawa, KS. And Lorna and Howard Hollaway of Claremore, OK, a brother and his wife, Glenn and Molly Brown of Hoxie, KS, a sister, Maxine Richards of Wakeene, KS, two grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and twenty-eight step-great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded by his parents and a brother, Elbert Brown.  A funeral was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at Bernice Baptist Church, with Rev. Chester Crittenden officiating.  Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Chase, Roy Rutherford, R.J. Gibbs, Oren Eubanks, Bill Kimrey, and Carl Banzet.  Burial will be at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Soxie Cemetery in Soxie, KS., with Lawrence Simon officiating.  A visitation was from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Franklin County Cancer Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
