Longtime resident of Miami, Mrs. Shirley M. Thomas passed from this life on Sunday afternoon August 8, 2010 in Mt. Vernon, Mo. at the age of 64. Shirley was born January 23, 1946 in Vinita, Oklahoma to her parents Clarence and Betty Drake.
Shirley grew up and attended school in Bluejacket, Okla. She married James Thomas on January 31, 1967 in Miami, Okla. and soon moved to Miami where she has resided and raised her daughter for over 46 years. Shirley was a member of SE Baptist Church and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Shirley loved sports. She cheered on OU, Dallas Cowboys and the Cubs. Her greatest love was for her family and her dogs. She and Tammie loved country music. They have attended many concerts together.
Although Shirley is no longer with us, her memory will be kept alive through her family and friends that survive her: one daughter, Tammie Thomas of Miami, Okla.; one brother, Larry Drake of Miami, Okla.; one step-son, Mike Thomas of Ketchum, Okla.; one niece, Patsy Seat of Miami, Okla.
Shirley is preceded in death by her stepfather, Claude Morgan and mother and father.
Pallbearers that will be serving are: Mark Ruppert, John Panter, Jackie Panter, Ron Seat, Jack Panter, Larry Drake.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday August 11, 2010 at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home, Miami. Pastor Phil Shyers will officiate the service. Interment will follow at GAR Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday evening August 10, 2010 at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m.
