Charles Spurgeon, of Fairland, died at Grove Nursing Center, Sep. 22, 2009.  He was 85. 

Mr. Spurgeon was born July 2, 1924, at St. Louis, MO., to Charles L. and Sara (Lyberger) Spurgeon. 

He was a veteran, having served in WWII with the US Army, and was a recipient of a purple heart. 

He was a truck driver for Roadway, before retiring.  He moved to Fairland, from Oklahoma City, in 1988.

He is survived by daughter and her husband, Cathy and Bill Brummet of Fairland, step-daughter, Shirley Franklin of Fairland,  step-sons and their wives, Bill and Virginia Collins of Platte City, MO., and Ira and Gay Collins of Kankakee, IL., grandchild, Stacy Shinn, and 9 step-grandchildren. 

A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Sept. 26, 2009, at Fairland Cemetery, with Rev. Ed McFall officiating.  Military rites will be performed by the American Legion Post #147 Veterans Funeral Detail. 

A visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, at Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland.  Arrangements provided by Adcock Funeral Home.  The family suggest donations be made to the American Association for the Blind, in care of the funeral home.
