GROVE, Okla. - Dale I Swearengin, 78 of Grove, Oklahoma and a former {arsons resident died Monday March 10, 2008 at Labette Health. Death followed a brief illness. He was born October 8, 1029 in Douglas County, Missouri to Earl I and Bessie J (Dalton) Swearengin. He lived with his family in Rogersville and Fordland, Missouri where he graduated from high school. He then moved with his family to Pawhuska, Oklahoma.

On November 12, 1950 he married Beth I Brunger at Pawhuska. They continued living there until moving to Parsons in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army in the early 1950s in Germany. He was employed by Safeway Grocery Store in Pawhuska and then in Parsons and he later worked for the homeland Store until he retired. After his retirement they moved to Grove, Oklahoma. Mrs. Swearengin preceded him in death on May 23, 2007. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include two sons, Roger Swearengin and wife Cathy and Randall Swearengin and wife Terri all of Parsons, KS, one daughter Janna Rathfon and husband Jerry also of Parsons. Five grandchildren, Leigh Harvey and husband Ben, Summer Rathfon, Amanda Swearengin and Nicholas Swearengin, two step-granddaughters, Billie Jo Wertz and husband Greg and Terena Barkley and husband Tim, a great-grandson Trae Neal, five step-great-grandchildren, Chase Nash, Justice and Lilliana Wertz and Gina and Emalee Barkley, two brothers, Glenn Swearengin and wife Barbara of Whidbey Island, WA and Larry Swearengin and wife Jane of Decatur, AL, two sisters Geraldine Horton of Billings, MO and Connie Robinson of Republic, MO. His wife, parents a sister Wanda George and infant brother Danny preceded him in death

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with his cousin Howard Swearengin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons with military honors by the Ft. Riley Funeral detail. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
