Vera Mae (Mathis) Frazier-Smith, resident of Wyandotte, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 78.

She was born on January 22, 1932 in Fairland, Oklahoma to Charley Mathis and Blanche Collison. She was the sixth child of eight children. Vera lived most of her life in the Wyandotte area except for a short time in Hood River, Ore. Vera graduated from Wyandotte schools, where she was a proud member of the Wyandotte Bears girls basketball team. On June 22, 1951, she married Norman Clark Frazier (Sass) in Miami, Okla.

They had four children. On May 18, 2000, Vera married Harold D. Smith of Hood River.

Vera was preceded in death by a daughter, Naomi Jean Frazier on October 15, 1955; first husband, Norman C. Frazier on February 9, 1995; her second husband, Harold D. Smith on September 15, 2010; her parents, Charley & Blanche; three sisters, Dora Roberts, Evelyn (sis) Francisco, Joann Cline; and two brothers, Gene Mathis, Basil Mathis.

She is survived by sons, Darrell E Frazier, of Wyandotte, Okla, Norman Dale and Anita Frazier of Wyandotte, Okla.; daughter, Brenda M. and Gene Brock of Fairland, Okla.; stepchildren, Betty Wollam of Milwaukee, Ore., Sherri Taylor of Portland, Ore., Harold Smith Jr. of Hood River, Ore.; grandchildren, Ashley R. Frazier of Vinita, Okla., Dala Mae and Shawn Davis of Grove, Okla., Dylan Clark Brock of Fairland, Okla., and Kim Zurbay of Wyandotte, Okla.; two great-grandchildren, Daelyn Frazier of Vinita, Okla. and Nick Zurbay of Wyandotte, Okla.; two sisters, Tooter Brumfield of Montana and Syliva Bingman of Idaho; one brother, Leon Mathis of Grove Okla., and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was at 6 p.m. 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Services were held 10 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Grove, Pastor Duane Crum officiated. Interment followed at Council House Cemetery.

Casket bearers are George Bradshaw, Ray Roberts, Joe Francisco, Ronald Francisco, Donald Francisco, Dean Mathis.

Honorary bearers are Dylan Brock, Shawn Davis, and Nick Zurbay.

Services are entrusted to Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home of Grove.
