GROVE - James Lee Wakeland, 66, of Grove, OK, passed away Sunday, March 1st, 2009 suddenly at Grove General Hospital in Grove, OK. He was born in New Rockford, N.D. on April 4, 1942, the son of the late James A. and Connie B. (Mauch) Wakeland. Jim was raised on a farm in Lamar, Co.
Jim was the husband of Janice (Palmer) Wakeland. Jim and Janice were married on June 14, 1963 in Mulvane, Ks. Jim and his family moved to Grove in 1979 from Shell Knob, MO. Jim worked for Boeing Aircraft for eight years in Wichita , KS . He later moved to Table Rock Lake were he operated a fishing guide service and operated the Viola boatdock Marina . He went on to work at Johnson Motor Repair and Viola Boat and Dock Marina. Jim was called into ministry in 1979. Jim founded New Life Family Worship Center in June of 1995.
Jim enjoyed fishing, farming, and elk hunting. He was a talented wood craftsman, in which he made wood furniture, cabinetry, and hunting bows.
Jim is preceded in death by his infant sister Sheila, and parents.
Jim survived by his wife Janice, one daughter, Dawn Threet and husband Randy of Grove, OK; two sons Shane Wakeland and wife Mollie of Grove, OK, and Lance Wakeland and Anneke of Jay, OK. Jim is also survived by one sister, Sandy Little of Romeoville, Ill., one brother, Terry Wakeland of Shell Knob, Mo. , and fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one on the way. Jim is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday March 5, 2009 from 6-8 P.M. at New Life Family Worship Center in Grove, OK. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday March 6, 2009 at Cornerstone Church in Grove, OK. Officiating will be Bro. Junior Dotson, Bro. Bob Rabel, and Bro David Killingsworth.
