Mary Margaret Whisenhunt left this life and was welcomed into eternal rest on Sept. 3, 2009 in Grove, OK. Meg was born on Feb. 22, 1943, the first child of Fred and Marie Whisenhunt in Bartlesville, OK. She spent her childhood in Bartlesville, graduating from St. John School and going on to Ursuline Academy and Junior College in Paola, KS. She continued her education at Marillac College in St. Louis and the University of Oklahoma Medical School where she obtained a degree in Cytotechnology. Always the scholar, at age 54, Meg returned to school and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Martin University in Indianapolis, IN. in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

Meg’s lifelong career was with Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, as director of the blood bank. She enjoyed sharing in the lives of the young lab techs under her direction. She loved her life on Woodland Lake in Brown County, IN, only recently moving to Grove due to ill health.

Meg was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, organ and harpsichord, as well as the violin. Music touched soul and she loved to share in all kinds of musical experiences.

Genealogy was her passion and she was proud of her Cherokee Indian background. She traced her family back to the Trail of Tears, helped build a Whisenhunt family website and organize the first Whisenhunt family descendants family reunion in Oolagah, OK. recently.

Meg is preceded in death by her parents, and her lifelong friend, Janie Herrell. She is survived by her sister and husband Polly and Glenn Sharp of Grove, OK., her sister and husband Nancy and Larry Neilson of Wellsville, UT, brother Joseph Whisenhunt of Victoria, TX and many loving nieces and nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Oct. 11, 2009 at Woodland Lake in Brown County, IN. Contributions may be made in Meg’s name to The Wings Foundation, 9 Holly Place, Bayeville, NJ 08721.
