Russell E. Turnbow, age 65, Joplin, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2009 at St. Johnís Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
†Russell was born August 28, 1944 in St. Francis, Kansas to the late Frances Turnbow and June Clark Turnbow and had lived in the four state area most of his life.
He had worked as a C.P.A. for NCRA in Great Bend, Kansas.† For 8 years, he owned and operated Cherry Tree Snacks in Miami, Oklahoma and for 30 years operated Delmar/Miami Laundry in Miami.
He actively volunteered as a Cub Scout director in Miami and was a soccer coach and referee in Miami for 10 years.† He also served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Baxter Springs and was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church, Joplin.
Russell proudly served his country and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He married Sheryl Ball on April 26, 1968 in Great Bend, Kansas.† She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include two sons, Justin August Turnbow, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jason Edward Turnbow and his wife, Rindy, Miami, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Keaton, Matthew, Joshua, Maverick, Harley, Kelcie, Samantha, Jacob, Jessica; one great grandson, Kayden; two sisters, Betty Fournier and Shirley Stalder, both of Maryland; and several other extended family members.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel.† Rev. Joe Morris will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society, in care of Parker Mortuary.
