Douglas C. Serage was born on August 31, 1931 in Joplin, Mo., the third son of Harold Elliott and Bertha Kathleen (Geer) Serage.  He peacefully passed away on May 7, 2010 in Neosho, Mo. with his wife Nancy faithfully by his side.

Douglas was a 1949 graduate from Joplin High School and attended Joplin Junior College and the University of Missouri before serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.   After receiving an honorable discharge, Douglas completed a degree in Business at Pittsburg State University.

He is the loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather of and is survived by his wife Nancy Charlotte (Ekstrom) of Neosho, Mo. and his children, Steven of Grove, Okla., James of Grove, Okla., Russell of St. George, Utah, Elizabeth (Kelley) of Austin, Texas, and David of Tulsa, Okla.

Douglas also leaves behind a legacy of 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with three on the way.

Douglas instilled in his posterity a great love of his Heavenly Father and value of serving his fellowman.  All will greatly miss his funny faces, bear hugs, exciting stories of quarterbacking, basketball, and pole-vaulting, and his wonderful example of love and faith.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2010 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Neosho, Mo. (1226 Ridgewood Drive).  Interment will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Joplin, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the YMCA or Humane Society (or any Animal Advocate Group of choice).
