Clarence “Gooner” Barten, 57, of Grand Rapids, Minn., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 at Hibbing Fairview Regional Hospital.

Services: There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2008 at Good News Bible Church in Cohasset, Minn. with Pastor Tom Adams officiating.

Gooner was born in 1951 to Clarence and Eva Barten in Grand Rapids. He attended schools in Grand Rapids and graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1969. Gooner married Cynthia Fox in 1976.

Gooner spent several years employed by Dorholt’s Tile and was employed the last 10 years at Rantala Trucking in Nashwauk. He was always up for a card game, loved spending time camping at Dora Lake, taking road trips, watching Vikings games, spending time with friends, family and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Haylee. He was an active member at the Good News Bible Church in Cohasset, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Eva (Gallant) Barten; a brother, Edward Barten’ and a nephew, Shawn Barten.

Gooner is survived by his wife Cindy; son Parish (Sarah) Barten of Princeton; daughter Nicki (Chad Finckbone) Barten of Grand Rapids; granddaughter, Haylee; mother and father-in-law, Delores and Walter Fox of Dora Lake, Minn.; sisters, Kee Kee (John) Plaisted of Northfield, Minn., Shirley (Debbie) of Nisswa and Sandy of Ball Club; brother-in-law, Rick (Brenda) Fox along with numerous nieces and nephews.
